Christian Education at St. Edward's
Atrium - ages 3-5 The Atrium provides a place for young children to come closer to God. It is a place that is deeply respectful of children, who easily can make their way to God in freedom and joy. It is also a place where religious formation is biblical and sacramental. Grades 1-3 The Episcopal Church Curriculum is that the heart of this class. The goal is to make the people of the Bible and the Church come alive for young learners. Unit I always focuses on specific people of the Old Testament; Unit II focuses on Jesus' life; Unit III focuses on the Sacraments; and Unit IV emphasizes people, those from the early church, in the Bible and the lives of saints. Grades 4-6 This class also uses the Episcopal Church Curriculum. The units described for grades 1-3 are further developed with more focus on the lessons relating to our everyday lives. Unit I (Old Testament) focuses on the concept of prophecy, covenant, psalms and wisdom. Unit II examines Jesus' life and ministry by looking at miracles, parables and the coming of God's Kingdom. Unit III focuses on the sacraments - including living out the gospel. And Unit IV focuses on church history and traditions. Rite 13 - Grades 7-9 Designed to lead young adults toward confirmation, Rite 13's curriculum "Journey to Adulthood" uses discussion, prayer, and involvement in outreach to engage children ages 12 to 14 in active faith and ministry. Adult Education While children participate in their respective Sunday morning classes, adults are invited to attend presentations and participate in discussions on a range of topics from prayer, to Bible study, to the origins of our worship service and the history of the Episcopal Church wand worldwide Anglican Community. Seasonal evening series are often presented during Advent and Lent as well. |
